The Czech Republic has rolled out a Digital Nomad Visa program, making it easier for skilled professionals from eight countries – Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, the UK, and the USA – to live and work in this European country.

Unlike usual Digital Nomad visas, the Czech Digital Nomad visa offers an extended residence permit, granting freelancers the opportunity to work independently in the Czech Republic for a maximum duration of 365 days.

How can you get this visa?

Eligibility. To be eligible for the Digital Nomad Visa, you should be a citizen of one of the aforementioned eight countries. You also must work remotely as an employee of a company with at least 50 employees or as a freelancer and have a university degree in IT or STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) or have at least three years of work experience in these fields.

Application Process. The application process is straightforward. Start by visiting your nearest Czech embassy or consulate. Fill out the required application forms, providing essential documents such as proof of your skills, a valid passport, and evidence of financial stability.

Financial Requirements. While specific financial requirements may vary, you should be able to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses during your stay in the Czech Republic. To meet the minimal requirement for a single applicant, you need to earn at least 1.5 times the national minimum wage. Currently, the necessary minimal amount is $2,710 per month.

Health Insurance. Ensure you have adequate health insurance coverage during your stay. The Czech Republic offers affordable healthcare options, and you can often join the state health plan for as little as $95 a month.

Also, you must have a clean criminal record.

Freelancers are required to obtain a Czech business license, allowing them to offer services to Czech companies under contract arrangements.

It is impossible to apply for this visa while already being in the Czech Republic.

Visa applicants can include immediate family members in their applications. However, it's important to note that their spouses and dependents are not permitted to seek local employment within the country during their stay.
